Late night delivery

Why was my late night delivery order cancelled?

Most late night cancellations come from the restaurant side: the kitchen closed, ran out of something or stopped taking delivery orders. If the store or the app cancels, you should get your money back.

DoorDash lists three main reasons it cancels orders: the restaurant is closed, is out of an item, or is no longer accepting takeout orders. When anyone other than you cancels, DoorDash says it will make sure you get a full credit or refund.

Uber Eats gives similar reasons. Its help center says a store may cancel when it runs out of an item or gets a flood of orders, and you won't be charged when that happens. If an item runs out, you may get a notice giving you 10 minutes to change your order before it cancels on its own.

Couriers can cancel too. Uber names two cases: the store was unexpectedly closed when they got there, or they couldn't reach you at drop-off. In the second case you may not get a refund, so keep your phone close.

Cancelling yourself is different. As of October 2026, DoorDash gives a full refund only if the restaurant hasn't confirmed and no Dasher is assigned, a partial refund if one of those has happened, and no refund once both have, for orders that aren't late. Uber only guarantees a refund if you cancel before the store accepts.

Ordering close to closing time raises the odds of a cancellation. Late Night Food Spots shows an "Order by" time 30 minutes before each kitchen closes, so you can see the safe window.
