Late night delivery

What happens if the restaurant is closed when the driver gets there?

The driver reports the closed store in the app, and your order gets cancelled. On DoorDash, you should get a full credit or refund, since you weren't the one who cancelled.

DoorDash has a set process for this. A Dasher who finds a store closed is told not to unassign from the order and to report it in the app with a clear photo, such as dark lights, an "open" sign that's off or the posted hours. Once DoorDash confirms the closure, it removes the order from the Dasher's app, closes the store on the platform and gives the Dasher proportional pay for the work done.

DoorDash also warns Dashers that marking an open store as closed counts as fraud and can get them deactivated.

On your side, "the restaurant is closed" is one of the reasons DoorDash lists for cancelling an order. When someone other than you cancels, DoorDash says it will make sure you receive a full credit or refund, as of October 2026.

Uber Eats lists the same situation. Its help center says a delivery person may cancel because the store was unexpectedly closed when they arrived. That page doesn't spell out the refund for this case, so if you see a charge, contact support through the app.

Closed on arrival usually means the listed hours were wrong or the kitchen shut early. If you hit a place that was dark during its posted hours, tap "It was closed" on its Late Night Food Spots listing so the next person knows.
