Privacy policy

Late Night Food Spots ("we", "us") runs latenightfoodspots.com. You don't need an account to use the site, and we collect as little as we can. This page explains what we do collect and why.

Your location

• We only use your location if you allow it in your browser, type an address, or pick a neighborhood.
• Your location is kept in your browser's session storage so it survives a page change. It is cleared when you close the tab.
• To show walk and drive times, your browser sends your coordinates to our server. The server works out the times, either with a distance estimate or with a routing service (Mapbox). When a routing service is used, your coordinates are sent to it.
• To keep the site fast, travel times are cached for 5 minutes under your location rounded to about 100 meters. We don't save your location to our database or link it to you.
• A typed address is sent through our server to the free US Census Bureau geocoder to turn it into coordinates. Neighborhood picks stay in your browser.

City launch emails

If you ask to hear when a city launches, we store your email address, the city and the date you signed up. We use it only to tell you about that city. We don't sell it or share it for marketing. The signup form uses Cloudflare Turnstile to check that you're a person and not a bot. To be removed, email hello@latenightfoodspots.com.

"It was closed" reports

When you report a closed place, we store the listing, the time, any note you add (up to 500 characters) and a one-way code made from your IP address and that listing. The code lets us tell when two different people report the same place. We don't store your IP address itself. Please don't put personal details in the note.

Analytics

We use Google Analytics to see which pages people visit and how they find us. Google Analytics sets cookies and receives information such as the pages you view, your browser and device type, and your approximate location based on your IP address. It only runs on latenightfoodspots.com. You can read how Google uses this data or opt out with the Google Analytics opt-out add-on. Blocking cookies in your browser also works and doesn't break the site.

Hosting and logs

The site runs on Cloudflare. Like any web host, Cloudflare processes your IP address and request details to deliver pages and protect the site from abuse, and keeps short-term logs that we use to fix errors. See Cloudflare's privacy policy.

Links to other sites

Listings link to restaurant websites, Google Maps directions and ordering or delivery apps. Those sites have their own privacy policies, and we don't control what they collect.

What we don't do

• We don't sell your personal information.
• We don't run ads or ad tracking.
• We don't build profiles of where you go.

Your choices

You can use the site without sharing your location, signing up or allowing cookies. You can ask us what we hold about you, or ask us to delete it, by emailing hello@latenightfoodspots.com. Depending on where you live, you may have other rights under local law, and we'll honor them.

Children

The site isn't meant for children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect their information. If you think a child has signed up, email us and we'll delete it.

Changes

If we change this policy, we'll update it here and change the date below. If a change affects how we use your email, we'll tell you before it applies. See also our terms of use.
